I couldn't take it. Back to regularly scheduled programing!
Great photo! I don't know what sort of snake it is but it looks dangerous and you wouldn't get me anywhere near enough to be able to take a photo.

@Mike: Not dangerous at all. Just a garter snake. And I brought my husband along in case I couldn't jump up fast enough to get out of his way! So, not very brave at all!
What a beautiful snake. Love the detail and color. And that flicking tongue, wonderful!

@Michael Skorulski: Thanks Michael. I took about 15 images to try and time the tongue. I finally got one image that I liked!
@Peter Miller: Thanks Peter :0)
Good angle with striking clarity in the head.
I feel as if I somehow contributed to your decision. Sorry if I was not enthusiastic enough in the last few posts; I thought it was interesting to think about "experimenting," particularly why we do it. Anyway, hope you're still enjoying your photography as much as I am.

@GJC: It was totally my decision! I am very happy with my photography myself, but felt as if I was in a rut. I see so many beautiful artistic interpretations of photography, that I felt as if I was not "artistic." I truly prefer realism. So, instead of trying to be something I am not, I am concentrating on what I do and do it better. Does that make sense? So, yes, I still love photography and get GRUMPY if I am unable to fit it into my life!
This snake really gleams. What a great capture, Tracey.

@Andrew Gould: Thanks Andrew! And when you catch up, you catch up! You are always welcome to leave a comment, and I enjoy all of your comments, but please don't fell like you have to!
An amazing close up of this snake, the details are fantastic.

@MaryB: Thanks Mary! I really am enjoying my 5D and new lens. The difference is amazing!
OH my God, look at those details, most beautiful snake I've ever seen, wow not only can you drool you are BRAVE and very smart to bring hubby along ;)

@Lorraine: Thanks Lorraine! He really was pretty but not at all dangerous. Snakes don't freak me out too much, so it was fun!
I was surprised to see this is a garter snake. I thought for sure it was something much more exotic. Your capture is exceptional, particularly with the tongue out. Your focus on the face is really great. I still like all your pretty stuff:-)

@sherri: Thanks Sherri! Nothing exotic. Just the run of the mill garter snake. They are pretty though, aren't they?
@Craig: It took me awhile to capture his flickering tongue, but the patience was worth it!
That's a pretty one! People would run mad here if they found such a snake in their gardens! :-)

Great shot, what a perfect capture of the tongue.

The 'proverbial' snake in the grass :)
Great shot...

Tracey this is a beautiful capture of Mr. sssssss. Did you have to lay in the grass to get this wonderful shot?? The detail is perfect and I think is little pink tongue is very charming. (That said with tongue in cheek no pun intended.)

foreboding image! i like it, and I'm glad I don't have a fear of snakes. Your experiments were fun Tracey and I hope you continue to look outside the box, but not if it is a sacrifice of your own sense of your art! As always, enjoying your work :)

Isn't crawling around on the ground fun? This was a great excuse to do that.
