great capture! I don't think I have ever seen a photo of the sad end of a pumpkin. I hope the did not begin to stink yet :)

@Marion: Too darn cold for stinking. Oh, and BTW, I put them in the compost pile today to give them a decent of end of life! I got tired of seeing their deflation every time I walked in the door! And besides, it is now time for holly, ivy, and Christmas trees...so long pumpkins!

I have seen this sight before!! The worst is when you try to pick them up to move them and they dissolve into a mushy mess in your hands!!

Great shot - I really like the frost on the pumpkin and your composition - well done.

@Chris: Ha! I just got rid of them today (see previous comment), but I was lucky that the bottoms were actually still firm. No issues picking them up and placing them in the compost pile...thank goodness! You can be sure that I thought about your comment before I attempted it, though! I more my gloves ;0)

Nice color saturation. They look real squishy. Is that frost or mold?

@Jeffster: Well, Jeff, this is the result of frost and snow the day before. They were already in poor shape before the freeze, as they were beginning to get mushy. The white areas in this particular photo is discoloration and decay of the rind of the pumpkin. It was not really mold, per say, it was where the rind had lost the pigmentation. But then of course, i am no scientist either! Thanks for the comment and question!
