I'm not sure why exactly, but I find this a very strong photo. Perhaps its the simplicity and the straightforwardness of the composition, but it has great dignity. Well done.

@GJC: Thanks GJC! When I first glanced at this one as I was proofing it caught my eye too. I am not sure why either. I can say, though, that it is much stronger in B/W as the chair color is a bright blue and totally overwhelmed the picture. I wanted the focal point to be her eye, not the chair! So, a simple conversion later it was, in my opinion, a gem!
This is a wonderful portrait. She has lovely eyes.

@Laurie: Thanks Laurie! That is why we call her "Ladybug." She has always had large eyes, even when she is squinting. Makes for a great photo because her eyes allow so much light in!
Perfect use of B & W, especially since you say the chair was a bright blue.
You tell your "Ladybug" that my husband's called me his Ladybug for 49 years, so from this Ladybug to your Ladybug.......have fun!
this is possibly one of my favorite shots of yours so far Tracey. It's an excellent composition, the emotion is fully present, and the clarity of her eye just jumps out of the image! Perfect! 5 stars!
You've captured the moment so well, Tracey. The eye is the centre of attention, but the other forms and their textures lend great interest to the overall composition.
