@Ana Lúcia: The moth WAS huge. It was about the size of my hand. I was disappointed that he wasn't closer to something that would help me give a better perspective of his size so everyone could see. He was actually at a gas station pump where we were filling up the tank on vacation. My husband spotted him and pointed him out to me. Thankfully I always carry my camera with me. I am sure the other people around were wondering what the crazy lady was doing lying on the ground with a camera at a busy gas station!

It's a beautiful moth. Well-spotted and captured. I used to know what this kind is called, but at 59 some long-unused informational details do tend to slip away.
