Virginia has the reddest soil I have ever seen. It is like the earth is bleeding! The stream in this forest was so shallow that the red mud underneath was amazingly visible. I loved the effect it gave the water.

Absolutely calming... great shot.

That red mud is certainly interesting, and makes a great contrast to the leafless winter trees. Compositionally I like the bridge, but I wonder what the shot would have looked like if it wasn't in the middle of the shot (move up or down?).

@Chris: Chris, I agree. The bridge in the middle is not textbook, but I tried a few crops and liked this one the best. Sometimes I like to break the rules ;0)
Yes, they talk about "the red clay of Georgia" and never mention how that red soil goes all the way up the east coast into Virginia. I used to live in Virginia and I always liked the red soil. Lovely image.

@sherri: Thanks Sherri!
Curious, I was more interested in the bridge over the water perspective...for more red earth/soil, you should visit Prince Edward Island...it's just up the coast.

Very special colours in the water. It's like to be in a enchanted forest... I like the crisp and clear details here... peaceful - great, especially the two crossing lines (bridge & waterflow) make a brilliant gentle division of you photo... Wys

Beautiful, tranquil shot. Great photo

You are suppose to walk over the bridge, not through the stream. :-)
Very nice shot!

@Bonj: You made me smile! There were actually rocks in the middle of the stream, so I was safe as long as I didn't trip! :0)
This place would be worth a return visit sometime soon ... all those trees are gonna be bustin' loose very soon. I can definitely live with the bridge in the center ... sometimes you have to be bold and step over the line!

@Ron: Going back in June!
great scenery - i like how the red soil really comes through the water... here in Western Australia we have a lot of red soil especially when one ventures out into the rural areas...
